Told from Tella’s point of view, the Epilogue focuses on Tella’s actions during the afterparty. She dances with a series of different partners, one of whom has “a shadowy smirk” and draws her close before disappearing (400). His disappearance is so sudden that Tella is confused. She thinks she just had too much to drink. She steps away from the crowd and finds something heavy in her pocket. She pulls it out. It’s a note wrapped around a coin. The note is from “A friend” congratulating her on her successful plan. The writer states that he’s sure her mother would be proud and that she’ll be able to see her mother soon. However, Tella has to hold up her end of their deal. He states he’ll collect his payment very soon.
The Epilogue establishes the premise of the next book, Legendary, which is told from Tella’s point of view. The theme “all magic comes at a cost” already appears in the Epilogue because even though Tella’s plan was successful and the sisters are free of their father, Tella has someone else to answer to now. It’s clear she hasn’t told Scarlett about her deal or her search for their mother, which could spell conflict for the sisters in the sequel.
