Marsh and Sazed explore the Conventical of Seran, which is completely dark since the Inquisitors’ powers allow them to see without needing light. Sazed speaks his observations quietly to record them in his coppermind so that he can share the information with his people later. In one of the rooms, they find evidence of people having been killed brutally, but Marsh refuses to explain what the killing was for, despite being an ally of the crew. Marsh explores the living quarters while Sazed explores further. His torch reveals a large steel plate with engravings; Sazed realizes that the message is written in an old Terris dialect and takes a rubbing of it for later study. In the message, written by a Terrisman named Kwaan, Sazed reads that Kwaan proclaimed a man named Alendi to be the Hero of Ages and then later realized that he was wrong. At the end of The Final Empire, Sazed and the crew learned that it was Kwaan who convinced the Terrisman Rashek (who was actually the Lord Ruler) to do everything he could to stop Alendi from taking the power at
